How your data is handled
Last updated: 24 October 2026
The Mimic - Synthetic Customer tool creates a fictional customer persona from information you provide, lets you interview that persona, and produces a written debrief of the conversation.
What happens to what you type
The text you enter is sent from the Mimic service to Azure OpenAI in Microsoft Foundry to generate the fictional persona, conversation replies and debrief, and the resulting output is sent back to your browser.
Mimic is designed to use a European Data Zone deployment. Microsoft states that Data Zone deployments process prompts and responses within the selected data zone, although processing can take place in more than one Azure region within that zone.
Microsoft states that prompts and completions used for standard model inference are not available to OpenAI or other customers, are not used to train, retrain or improve the base models, and are not stored in the model. Mimic uses stateless chat-completion requests and does not request stored completions.
Azure OpenAI includes content filtering and abuse monitoring. Prompts and generated content identified as potentially abusive may, in some circumstances, be selected for Microsoft review and stored in a Microsoft-managed abuse-monitoring store. For deployments in the European Economic Area, Microsoft states that authorised human reviewers are located in the EEA. Microsoft's current public documentation does not specify a fixed maximum retention period for content placed in that human-review store.

What to enter, and what not to
Enter information about your own product or service, and about the kind of customer you are trying to reach.
Please do not enter personal information about a real, identifiable person. Describe your target customer by their role, their organisation and their situation rather than by name. If you are working from a real person's profile, remove their name and any contact details first.
The persona the tool creates is fictional and deliberately different from whatever you describe, so it does not need anybody's identity to work.
What is not kept
Mimic is designed not to save the text of your conversation, persona or debrief on Synthetic Futures' servers. During a request, information is processed in memory and transmitted to Microsoft Azure as described above. Hosting providers may also retain technical request logs, subject to their service settings.
Your conversation and generated content are held in your browser while you use the tool and are lost on page reload or when you close the tab. There are no individual participant accounts and Mimic does not set first-party tracking cookies. If you download a PDF, the file is generated in your browser and saved to the location you choose.
Synthetic Futures does not maintain recoverable copies of individual conversations, and cannot restore a conversation you close.
Third-party website resources
Mimic loads web fonts through Google Fonts and a PDF-generation library through Cloudflare's cdnjs service. Visiting the site may disclose technical connection details, such as your IP address, to those services. Your persona and conversation text is not included in those resource requests.
What is counted
We count how often the tool is used, so that we can manage the licence and understand how the tool is being used.
For each cohort access code, we record usage counts such as personas created, messages exchanged, debriefs produced, and dates of activity. We also use temporary per-interview identifiers and timing information to calculate aggregate session statistics. These records do not contain the conversation text or a participant account identifier.
The usage information is intended to be cohort-level, not to identify participants. Technical service logs maintained by hosting providers may nevertheless contain IP addresses or related connection information.
Who sees this
The usage figures are available to Synthetic Futures Ltd, which operates the tool. An institution holding a licence can be given access to the figures for its own cohorts, which are the numbers described above and nothing further.
